I Should Really Tell Her Thanks (Day 2 with Krafty Kash Artisan Jewelry Give Away!)

I looked across the beautiful display of Krafty-Kash necklaces spread out in an antique box with small wooden rectangles housing each one.  “Which one is me?” I thought.  Mom.  Sister.  Bible.  Bookworm.  Each of the necklaces held one word that could be.  Others didn’t jive at all.

I wanted one, but didn’t have any idea which one to pick.

“The trouble with me,” I thought, “is that I am so many things.”  Why can’t I just choose?  Focus.  Figure out the thing already!  My thoughts turned–as they do more and more often as I try to practice gratitude.

“Maybe it’s not the trouble that I’m so many things.  What if that’s a good thing?”  To my mom, I’m a daughter.  To my husband, a wife.  To myself, a bookworm.  To my actor friends from Brownville I’m the gal who always got cast in plays playing the crazy old lady.  To my Skrewtape Letters book study friends I’m the one with lots of questions who is too concerned about capital letters having deep meaning.

And all of it is me.

I think God likes the cassarole.

When did we get so obsessed with finding the “just right” thing to be?  When did it become true that you needed one place where your great joy meets the world’s deep need? (Sorry Frederick Buechner.)

When did being the multi-layered, complex, prism-like, light-scattering, rainbow-making, beautiful mutt-like mix that we are become such a bad thing?

I’m me.  That is enough.  You’re you.  And that is enough.  Maybe it’s more than enough.  So just pick a necklace you like, or one you’re aspiring to.  Pick one that’s shiny.  But pick.  You’re so worth it.

Today’s gratitude dare is to think of three people who have loved you through any time of wondering who you are.  To express extra thanks to someone who has helped you along the way, enter them to win TWO Krafty Kash artisan necklaces (maybe they’ll even share their winnings with you!)  It’s a $42 value.  To enter someone to win one for them and a friend, do ONE of the following:

  • Tag them in a Facebook comment on this post.
  • Write their name in a blog comment on eviwusk.com.
  • Tag them in a tweet to @eviwusk with #kraftykash.
  • Respond to your Gratitude Gal E-mail with the name and “Krafty Kash Winner” in the subject line.

We will draw the winner on day 30 of the Gratitude Challenge, so tag/thank/e-mail as many names as you want!  The more the merrier.

“I become more whole, but wholeness does not mean perfection.  It means becoming more real by acknowledging the whole of who I am. . . I want ot learn how to hold the paradoxical poles of my identity together, to embrace the profoundly opposite truths that my sense of self is deeply dependent on others dancing with me and that I still have a sense of self when no one wants to dance.”Parker Palmer (my favorite writer), The Courage to Teach: Exploring the Inner Landscape of a Teacher’s Life

  1. 2 of my most recent friends Jenny Sollberger and Stacy Stohlmann – since I got married 6 years ago, these 2 women have become 2 of my closest friends in my \”new\” life. So grateful for them!!
